If you are planning to do studies in Cuba, either short
or long-tem, at the University of Habana, you should keep
in mind the following immigration requirements for this
type of activity.
Any foreign national to
study in Cuba is required to stay at a university residence,
tourist resort or at a licensed private rental home.
All those wishing to resgister
for Spanish language or any other course in Cuba should
apply for an academic or student visa. Formerly it was posible
to do short-term courses (30 days or less) with a tourist
visa; however, at present a student visa is required.
To get a student visa you
should contact the Direction of Graduate degree of the University
(dpg@uh.cu) or the corresponding School at the University
20 days prior to your intended arrival date. You need to
provide the following data:
" Full name
" passport number and nationality
" date of birth
" date of your arrival in Cuba
You will then be able to
collect your student visa at the Cuban Consulate in your
country. That visa wil be valid for 30 days. In case you
would like to take a course which lasts more than 30 days,
you should visit the Dirección de Relaciones Internacionales
(International Office) within the next 5 days following
your arrival. This office will assist you in extending your
visa. For this, it will be necessary that you submit:
" your passport
" your guest card at a university residence or tourist
resort, or a xerox of the rental of the house where you
are staying
" 25.00 CUC in stamps, which you can get at the Banco
de Crédito y Comercio, (Bank of Credit and Trade).
If for some reason you arrive
in Cuba with a tourist visa, upon your registration at the
university (not more than 48 horas after your arrival),
it will be necessary that you submit:
" passaport and tourist
visa
" 40.00 CUC in stamps for the Visa change and/or
extension
" Quest's of the university residence card, tourist
installation or it photocopies of the permission of lease
of the house where it is housed
" 25.00 CUC in cash as a fee for changing your visa
If you are only coming to
study Spanish, you need not go to the Direction of International
Relationships to get things done as, during the first three
days for registration (first Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
of each month), a member of our staff will assist you in
the process.
It is important to keep
in mind that your passport will be under the custody of
the University and Immigration while your new visa is
issued. Therefore, we recommend that you have money handy,
as well as a xerox of your passport or any other form
of ID in case any authority requests your identification.
