Protein-based nanobiotechnology combines the study of proteins at the nanoscale with the expanding field of nanobiotechnology. The School and Workshop are aimed at postgraduates and young researchers interested in the state of the art of proteins in nanobiology and nanobiotechnology. Physical, chemical and biochemical approaches for studying structural and functional properties of proteins and their contribution as advantageous tools for the nanobiotechnology field will be addressed. Up-to-date information on the use of proteins as important elements for building nanoscale machines or designing nanodevices with emerging applications in biomedicine, pharmacy, chemistry and agricultural and livestock sciences will be also provided. The main goal of the Advanced School and Workshop is to allow the participants understanding and incorporating these topics into their research and teaching activities. The course is organized in 23 lectures and students will participate in round-table discussions and share their research results with experts and colleagues in Poster sessions.
It is foreseen that around 50 young scientists from different geographical regions could attend the Advanced School and Workshop. They will be partially or completely financially supported by IUBMB grant and other sponsors. Shortly, the organizers will launch a call for this International School and Workshop. Based on candidate´s age-Curriculum Vitae, area of professional research/interest, and a letter explaining her/his interest in the course, the academic committee of the course will decide the acceptance of candidates to support their participation. Some Cuban young scientists will be also supported by the National Cuban Society of Chemistry (In particular its Section of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) as well as the Center of Molecular Immunology, Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Center for Drug Research and Development (CIDEM) and the University of Havana. The attendance of young scientist will be partially or totally supported according to the candidate conditions and final budget granted.

Located in the province of Matanzas, Varadero is the most famous beach resort in Cuba, and one of the largest resorts in the Caribbean. Also known as 'Blue Beach' because of its clear, calm waters, Varadero is fronted by a 20km (12-mile) fine white sandy beach, which is bathed by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream. Varadero Beach has an international airport and all communications with Havana are excellent. Besides, there are previous experiences of other scientific meetings successfully held in this location.

Comments
"The advanced school of 2015 had extremely good quality, with high-level professors and good participation of the students. To place the session of poster at night was a great idea. I think the competition of posters was very productive. So, it should keep on!"
PhD. Karina García/ Head of Biology Systems Group/ CIM
"Now back at home I realized how many beautiful memories I will retain from Cuba. I was really impressed with the preparation and active participation of the students not only during the conference sessions but also during our chats on coffee breaks or dinners. I am glad to have been part of this school and hope that the support will be retained for future editions - students deserve this type of effort."
